Library Loot 5

1. Clink Clank Clunk by Miriam Aroner
2. Meow said the Cow by Emma Dodd
3. Doggone Dogs by Karen Beaumont
4. Bats on Parade by Kathi Appelt
5. Chicks Run Wild by Sudipta Bardhan-Quallen
6. The Copy Crocs by David Bedford
7. Dino-Soccer by Lisa Wheeler
8. Good Morning, Digger by Anne Rockwell
9. Franklin Says I Love You by Paulette Bougeoise

Honorable Mentions:
Elliot's Bath by Andrea Beck
Paddington Bear by Michael Bond

This was a pretty good haul--there were some pretty silly stories!  Jackson's favorite was Clink, Clank, Clunk--cute pictures too!  Bats on Parade and Chicks Run Wild were two of my favorites :)  Brenda and Belinda and the Slam Dunk was a little over Jackson's head.  I feel like we are working through the stages of reading: short board books are first, then you can move on to board books with a little story, next comes short picture books, now Jackson can totally sit still for longer stories, but there is a fine line when the story concept becomes too advanced.  Overall, it's a good place to be right now :)

9. Bear's New Friend by Karma Wilson
 10. Marley and the Kittens by John Grogan

Extra entries:
 One-Dog Canoe by Mary Casanova
Bunny Party by Rosemary Wells

This was an AWESOME haul from the library!  Jackson picked quite a few favorites out of this batch, and there really weren't any duds (I feel like no matter how much I flip through a book at the library--and let's face it how much time do I have to do that while keeping my eye on my toddler?--there are always a few books we take home that are nothing too special).  I found it quite interesting that I had just finished reading Oh Amanda's Top Ten Tuesday post the day before we went to the library and she listed two of the books that jumped out at me from the shelves: One-Dog Canoe and Animal Strike at the Zoo!  They were indeed super cute :)

Jackson's favorites were: Whoo!  Whoo!  Goes the Train (This was a VERY cute story about Allan who LOVES everything about trains--playing with them, reading about them, pretending to make the sounds, and he gets to take his FIRST train ride AND visit Trainland!!!  I wish WE had a Trainland!!!), The Very Noisy Night (I LOVED this one myself, too!  Big Mouse and Little Mouse are really cute and the story revolves around Little Mouse not being able to sleep due to various reasons.  No, it's not a super original storyline, BUT the pictures are ADORABLE--the details were cute in the mouse bedroom!), and Bunny Party (of course since we love anything Max and Ruby!)

Library Loot 3: Part 1

Our latest library stash has been one of our best, I think.  There were lots of books that Jackson formed an attachment to and would ask for over and over.  I will share the full list next week, but wanted to highlight the two first favorites :)
Elliot Gets Stuck by Andrea Beck, grabbed Jackson's attention because it was about a moose!  He loved the "Wonder Pets" episode where they save a moose, plus Uncle Larry gave him a special stuffed moose when he was born.  We love moose over here :)  Apparently there is a not-so-small series of Elliot Moose stories!  I have never seen them, but they are SO cute!  Elliot has a posse of a few different stuffed animals who show up in each story (Amy the anteater, Socks the sock monkey, Beaverton the beaver, Angel the bear, and Lionel the lion).  Elliot Gets Stuck follows the story of Elliot getting stuck in the mail slot as he's trying to rush outside into the  Spring weather.  His friends work together to help free him.  Jackson likes to point to each animal friend as they join the effort to help Elliot.  He also likes that Elliot wears black rain boots to go outside and play!  My mom checked out a bunch more Elliot stories for us to read during our visit, and so far we have read Elliot's Bath and Elliot Bakes a Cake.  They are just as good as the first one we read--Jackson's thrilled!
Too Many Frogs! by Sandy Asher is a sweet story of how Froggie and Rabbit become friends.  Rabbit has a quiet life by himself, but Froggie works hard to be friends with Rabbit.  Rabbit realizes how nice it is to have a good friend, even if his life is a little less organized and predictable ;)  Jackson loves to point out the frog and say the "knock, knockety, knocking" part.  I was thrilled to go back to the library to see there were more Froggie and Rabbit stories!  I can't wait to read those too!

Library Loot 2

I am still on a mission to document as many books that we check out from the library as possible.  I am by no means going in order, but I do want to get back into the swing of sharing books!  I didn't get to take a picture of the group we just took back to the library, but here are the titles with links providing pictures and more information.  The reason I'm starting back in with this group is because this is the first set of books that Jackson seemed to really pick out some "favorites."

Baby Loves Peekaboo! by DK
1,2,3...Count with Me by Naomi Kleinberg
Just a Dump Truck by Mercer Mayer
Little Quack Counts by Lauren Thompson
Busy Doggies by Jon Schindel
Skippyjon Jones Color Crazy by Judy Schachner

The above set of books were all board books for the car.  Jackson has been asking for books more often in the car.  I thought a fresh batch would be exciting, but they actually didn't go over as well as I had hoped...

The books below were pretty well-loved all around:
Honk Honk!  Beep Beep! by Daniel Kirk
Katy and the Big Snow by Virginia Lee Burton
Trucks Roll! by George Ella Lyon
Arthur's Tractor by Pippa Goodhart
Bounce by Doreen Cronin
Who Hoots? by Katie Davis

Russell and the Lost Treasure by Rob Scotton
We have checked out the original: Russell the Sheep, and then my mom bought a copy for Jackson based on the recommendation from her manager at work.  He LOVED it!  I immediately checked for more Russell books, and I came up with this--there are a couple more too!  Jackson loved reading about Russell :)

Little Bo Peep Can't Get to Sleep by Erin Dealey
I didn't think Jackson would "get" this one (and I still don't think he did), but he repeatedly picked it out for story time.  I, personally, love it, and think it's a cute spin on a classic nursery rhyme character.  I especially love that the illustrator is the same as one of Jackson's new favorite books, Too Big (I stuck it in below as an extra).  The illustrator is Hanako Wakiyama, and her style is great!

Too Big! by Claire Masurel
Susie, Joe, and Rachel gave Jackson this book for Christmas, and he LOVES it!  I do too :)  It is such a sweet story!  It's not a very mainstreamed favorite, either, so it would be a great gift idea for book lovers!
